MEET THE MENTORS!

What to include in the 2 page spread

AT THE BEGINNING- the year starts

Picking a "Mentor" is a very important part of the artistic process. Mentors are those who have forged ahead of us and made a path that we can follow for awhile. There are so many styles and techniques to explore and mentors give us "permission" to try new ways. Some people are natural ITEMIZERS and some are SUMMARIZERS. Students can find which artists  they connect with and learn from them.

  • Name of artist BIG as a title
  •  pages should be colored- no white space showing (unless used for printing words and is part of your design)
  • photo of artist - dates of life, where  lived , mini biography
  • some direct quotes
  • design flows from left to right page like there is no fold in book
  • hand drawn copied version of a detail of painting or entire work
  • 3 small downloaded examples of work ( color OR black & white)
  • answer the questions 'In what ways did you connect with this artist?
  • "I love the way this artist.............."
  • "When I  see this artist's work it  reminds me of.................." Use analogies " The paint has a thick buttery consistency that reminds me of....."
  • Make the pages interesting with colors, shapes, textures, surfaces . Use different materials
