Solutions _ Carving Out the Light

jpg Challenge INTO THE NIGHT

In class we have been examining the effects of light and shadow and how the create a sense of drama and mystery. For this challenge I would like you to go around your house late at night with only limited light. Go in the kitchen. Dishes in the sink,, Basements and Garages are great. People can be in the picture but don't have them look at the camera directly .   Take pictures of people watching TV with the lights off or reading a book with one light on in the room.  Turn off all the lights but one in your room or desk.Look for cool shadows.  Really look and see what appears in the dark.Some examples :

Merge into the Darkness

After taking your pictures choose and crop the one that shows you merging into the dark. Be sure to "lose an eye" in your selection.
in your sketchbook draw a small sketch of your pick - DUE NEXT
decide what technique you will use and enlarge .
if you choose dark wash  you must do multiples ( 2 a class)
if you choose printmaking you have to cut the plate and make 4 prints
if you choose charcoal you do 1 drawing using the same process as the pumpkins.
